Overview
Sexuality is complex and requires the harmonious functioning of many types of parts internally, interpersonally and physically. Most of us carry at least a few sexual burdens, biases and blind spots acquired through personal experience as well as family and cultural legacy burdens. As therapists, we can be challenged addressing client sexual issues and remaining Self-Led. We may not have considered the difference between Part-Led and Self-Led Sexuality, or how sex can heal parts and deepen connections. Through a combination of teaching and case consultation, Patricia Rich will offer valuable insights and demonstrate application of IFS to this important but often therapeutically exiled life domain.

Session 1 - 15th April  4pm-6pm EST
BeFriend with Benefits: Exploring Sexuality through the Lens of IFS.
Introducing the topic of sexuality, welcoming participant parts that may become activated with this topic, elaborating on its relevance for IFS therapists and how sexuality may present in attendees clinical populations.
Case consultation and/or presenter case presentation.

Session 2 - 20th May  4pm-6pm EST
Self and Parts in the Internal Sexual System.
Introducing the internal sexual system, how parts can use sex and sexuality to do their jobs, burdened and Self-Led systems,  and the 6 S’s of sexual Self energy.
Case consultation and/or presenter case presentation.

Session 3 -  17th June   4pm-6pm EST
Embracing Our Self: Therapist Parts Related to Sexuality
Exploring activation of therapist parts, how sexuality can be consciously or unconsciously exiled from therapy, ways to ethically and responsibly welcome parts with sexual concerns and make referrals when needed.
Case consultation and/or presenter case presentation.

.......

Patricia Rich, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified IFS Therapist and AASECT Certified Sex Therapist and Supervisor. She fell in love with IFS in 2011 and has since completed Level 3, served as a Program Assistant and offered IFS workshops. She founded The Relating Well Center, LLC, a relationship and sexuality focused private practice in the Philadelphia area.

When Patty first became interested in IFS, she thought it would be useful in the treatment of sexual dysfunction. Then, as she learned the model she got curious about how sexuality “lives” in the internal system. Now she believes that IFS is not only extremely useful in the healing of sexual dysfunction and trauma, but  also for navigating today’s complex landscape of sexuality in a Self-Led way . She brought her insights to the IFS Annual Conference first as a half day session and then as a full day Pre-Conference workshop. She just completed teaching a four month module on Self-Led Sexuality for the IFS Institute’s Online Continuity Program.
